Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as The Cuban Five, were arrested on September 12, 1998, in the city of Miami. In a trial plagued with irregularities held in Miami, they were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 15 years to two life sentences plus 15 years.
