Camagüey, Cuba, Mar 5. – Journalists and foreign scholarship holders in Camagüey ratified their solidarity with the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in US penitentiaries during a meeting held in the provincial delegation of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP).
On behalf of the Int'l Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban 5, made up in Camagüey by young people from more than 60 nations, Colombian doctor Yohana Valdeblánquez said that “12 lengthy years have past and their convictions remain intact and haven’t cowered; on the contrary, each time they grow as paradigms of honor, patriotism and dignity”.
“The struggle for their freedom has been centre of our concerns for 10 years. We established the Committee to build awareness among the people around the world on this case, which has been hidden by the major media outlets in the United States. Consequently, we have had to tell the world the reality of their lives and that of their families”, added Valdeblánquez, also president of the solidarity group in Camagüey.
On the other hand, the theatrical company La Andariega presented a choreographic work dedicated to Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, René González, and Gerardo Hernández, proving that the art also joins its strength in the fight for the return home of the five Cuban patriots.
Another special moment was the reading of the message sent by Lisinia Duarte from Cape Verde, who once studied at the Jose Marti Pedagogical University in this city. Duarte implements in her homeland the knowledge and human values she learned in this portion of the Cuban soil.
In addition, they also read in the meeting a letter sent by Cuba's Higher Education Minister Miguel Diaz-Canel to Zaido Danzo, from Guinea Bissau, who took part in 17th World Festival of Youth and Students, and is one of the most prominent foreign scholarship holders.
Head of the ICAP Kenia Serrano Puig and Giraldo Mazola, founder of the organization as well as other guests were present in the Night of Solidarity, as these young people have dubbed this meeting.
