After signing a collaboration agreement with the Cuban Friendship Institute, ICAP, the Korean official identified with the cause of Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, who have been in jail since 1998.
The Cuban Five were sentenced in 2001 to terms that go from 15 years in prison to two life terms plus 15 years. They were condenmed for monitoring terrorist groups acting against Cuba under Washington’s consent.
Kim Jong Suk reiterated the North Korean people and leaders’ sympathy for Cuba, Prensa Latina reported.
On the Cuban side, the collaboration agreement was signed by ICAP’s President Kenia Serrano.
As part of her work program, Serrano met with the vice president of the Presidium of the People’s Supreme Assembly, Yang Hyong Sop, who noted that the visit of the Cuban delegation coincides with preparations for the celebration of the centenary –in April 2010- of Kim Il Sung, a historical leader of the Asian country who together with Fidel Castro marked the beginning of friendship bonds between both nations.
The Cuban delegation included ICAP’s vice president Alicia Corredera and Cuban ambassador in Pyongyang, German Ferras. They visited the Fruit Farm of Daedongkang and the Textile Factory of the North Korean capital, where there is a strong movement of solidarity with the Caribbean nation. (ACN).
