The call –Granma daily published- was issued before more than 3,000 participants in the Fourth Meeting of Labor Unions of Our Americas underway in Managua thru Saturday.
Union leaders applauded Borge’s proposal of writing a unique document on behalf of all Latin America addressed to President Barack Obama.
In Nicaragua alone –he estimated- more than 300,000 signatures in favor of Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez, who have been imprisoned for nearly 13 years, could be collected.
"Each delegation from the countries represented at the workers event could do the same thing," Borge said. “We’ll burst the U.S government’s eardrums with our demands,” he added.
Rene Gonzalez’ mother Irma Sehwerert, who is attending a forum in Nicaragua in favor of the Cuban Five, said keeping the five Cubans in prison was like trying to incarcerate Cuba, because "they remain in jail for keeping firm in the defense of their people."
Father Miguel D’Escoto, former Nicaraguan foreign minister and ex president of the United Nations General Assembly, said the Cuban Five’s case was the most emblematic example of the cynicism and hypocrisy of the empire [U.S] regarding terrorism matters.
Among speakers in the Meeting was also the Cuban Workers Confederation’s general secretary Salvador Valdes Mesa, Prensa Latina reported. (ACN).
