To date, a total of 158 people are confirmed to have the Vibrio Cholerae Tor 01 serotype Ogawa biotype, on the basis of clinical and epidemiological assessment and laboratory cultures. There have been no further deaths, the figure remaining at a total of three adults, as previously informed.
Measures taken have ensured that this waterborne outbreak of cholera is diminishing, without any evidence of its propagation via food or other ways.
As a result of the active epidemiological survey system in relation to acute diarrheal disorders typical of the summer months, isolated cases have been diagnosed in other regions of the country, of persons infected in Manzanillo, who are receiving treatment, while there is no dissemination of this epidemic outbreak.
Given this epidemiological situation, agencies and entities involved in systematic analysis and measures to be adopted are working in a coordinated way, guaranteeing potable water in the affected area, cleansing and sanitary operations, as well as a broad education campaign for residents of the area, who have cooperated throughout in meeting the prescribed sanitary measures.
The need to intensify hygienic measures is being reiterated, especially the frequent washing of hands, drinking bottled or boiled water, the adequate cleaning and cooking of food, all essential aspects during the summer months.
