The president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), Kenia Serrano, said on Thursday that one of ICAP’s priorities for 2011 is to strengthen and further develop the worldwide movement of solidarity with Cuba.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, Serrano announced that this would be a fruitful year that will include visits of important historic groups that support the Cuban Revolution as part of a process to strength relations with foreign organizations.

She mentioned the visit of the May Day Brigade, starting on April 25, which will take part in the celebrations on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day.

Serrano also referred to the 20th Juan Rius Rivera Brigade, from Puerto Rico; the 44th Venceremos Brigade, from the United States; and the 22nd United States-Cuba Friendshipment Caravan.

The president of ICAP announced that the call for the Seventh International Meeting in Solidarity with the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly imprisoned in the US since 1998 —which will take place in Holguin in November— will be issued on March 5.

She pointed out that, by the end of 2010, there were 2,133 organizations of friendship and solidarity with Cuba in 152 nations, and noted that 6,683 activities in support of Cuba took place last year.

She added that 339 committees in 111 countries defended the struggle for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez ––internationally known as the Cuban Five.

Elsewhere, the 35th Conference of the Communist Party of Austria passed unanimously a resolution for the release of these antiterrorists.

The resolution was presented by the president of the Buenavista Friendship Association, Stefan Krenn, and a member of the Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, Úrsula Lang.

According to the website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry (www.cubaminrex.cu), the document requests the Austrian Ministry for European and International Affairs to demand President Barack Obama to free the Cuban Five.
