The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), has announced the imposition of a fine of $ 374,400 dollars on the French shipping and transport company CMA CGM for providing services to Cuba.
In a bulletin from the entity that established the sanctions, which belongs to the U.S. Treasury Department, the European company was accused of violating regulations set out by Washington in its criminal policy of blockade against Cuba, reported Prensa Latina.
The OFAC bulletin says that the U.S. government has sued the shipping company's subsidiary, based in Norfolk, Virginia, after it accepted payments for shipments to the island, as well as accusing it of violating similar rules on Iran and Sudan.
However, it acknowledged that some of the goods transported to Cuba by the French firm could be classified as agricultural goods and medicine.
The CMA CGM is considered the third largest transporter of containers worldwide.
Washington has exercised an iron policy of blockade against Cuba for over half a century and its effects on the Caribbean nation's economy exceeded 751 billion dollars, according to latest data.

Esa entidad perteneciente al Departamento del Tesoro norteamericano y que estableció la sanción, acusó a la compañía francesa de violar regulaciones de este último sobre Cuba.
La CMA CGM es la tercera empresa a nivel mundial en el transporte por contenedores, y la medida aplicada constituye una evidencia más del bloqueo económico de Washington contra la mayor Isla caribeña, cuyas afectaciones superan los 751 mil millones de dólares.
De acuerdo con el boletín de OFAC, el gobierno estadounidense demandó a la subisidiaria de CMA CGM con sede en Norfolk, Virginia, tras aceptar pagos por facilitar envíos a Cuba. También la entidad fue acusada de violar regulaciones del Tesoro norteamericano sobre Irán y Sudán.
